Forty years ago, English Sweep was started by an Englishman who immigrated to St. Louis. His one-man shop changed ownership twice when Gregg Boss, current owner, purchased it in 1985. Boss, grew the company to twelve employees and one of the largest chimney sweep and dryer vent companies in Missouri. Located in Valley Park, Missouri, it is also the only company in Missouri to have a certified Master Chimney Sweep®, the highest level of national certification available.

The contributing factors to our success and longevity is the fact that we carefully follow the latest safety guidelines and completely analyze the entire fireplace system with our proprietary 17 Point Masonry Fireplace Inspection©.  Plus, we also make sure our customers are completely satisfied with their level of service.” explained Gregg Boss, owner of English Sweep. “Fireplaces are usually the heart of the home, where people gather and memories are made. We want to make sure that the fireplace produces only warmth and fond memories, and not a source of a home fire.

Glenn Whitlock, General Manager since 1997, explains that the quality of the team also contributes to their success. “Training, certifications and the experience of our team sets us apart from many of the other options” said Whitlock. “We are always on the look-out to add team members who take pride in their work and thrive on the satisfaction that they are making another home safe.”

Throughout the year the company will mark the founding anniversary with educational and community events, specials, and later this year their new showroom will host an open house. This fall the company will continue to take part in the nationwide efforts to raise money for “Sweep Away Cancer” and non-profit to help fight cancer.  And for the past 20 years the company has been active in educating the public during National Chimney Safety Week and National Fire Protection Safety Week.
