Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How often should I sweep my fireplace, gas logs, stove/insert or furnace flue?

The Chimney Safety Institute of America suggests having the venting system evaluated each year and swept as needed. The chimney professional reduces the potential of "Sudden Occurrences" such as flue fires and blockages that lead to unsafe levels of carbon monoxide which can be fatal. The sweep also addresses the deterioration of your venting system. Being aware of the condition of the venting system reduces the likelihood of a catastrophic event.

  2. How often should I have my dryer vent swept?

The dryer vent exhausts stem and lint from the dryer. After several uses the dryer efficiency falters due to accumulation of lint. A dryer vent clogged with lint reduces airflow causing your dryer to work less efficiently. An inefficient dryer uses more energy, thereby costing you more money. Lint is highly flammable, causing dryer vent fires. Having the vent checked yearly by a vent cleaning professional will detect other potential hazards such as, the presence of flammable vinyl duct or a duct run that is improperly routed.

  3. Why is it beneficial to sweep the ventilation air ducts in my home?

Your air duct system functions as the respiratory system of your home. Contaminants such as dust, dirt, pollen, and animal dander, cause the duct system to produce mold spores, bacteria, fungus, mildew and other microbes. Each time the furnace or air conditioner is used contaminants circulate throughout your home affecting the health and comfort of your family. Removals of these contaminants help cleanse the air circulating throughout the home, improving health conditions. Duct sweeping helps maintain a cleaner home and restores the heating and cooling system's capacity, reducing energy costs.
  4. When should my chimney be tuck pointed or rebuilt?

We recommend tuck pointing the chimney's exterior as mortar joints begin to deteriorate. The average length of time to service mortar joints are between 7 to 10 years. we rebuild chimneys when mortar joints fail. During our visit we will recommend the best repair method.
